Thousands raised for ‘warrior’ stabbed four times in terror attack as he enjoyed a drink with ‘childhood sweetheart’

Thousands of pounds have been raised for a “warrior” victim of the London Bridge terror attack who was knifed four times while enjoying a drink with his “childhood sweetheart”.

Father-of-three Brett Freeman was stabbed repeatedly as three attackers rampaged through Borough Market with knives after ploughing into pedestrians on the iconic bridge.

He is said to be in a stable condition in hospital after being injured in Saturday’s attack which left seven people dead and 18 fighting for life.

His childhood friend Charlie Makaveli has since set up a Go Fund Me appeal to try and help his family financially as he recovers from his wounds.

The 32-year-old from Romford said he spoke to Mr Freeman’s partner Amy who informed him his friend had been stabbed four times during the attack.

Londoners return to work after London Bridge terror attacks

“I spoke to her last night and again this morning and she said he is alive and awake, and he is in a stable condition and is in high spirits,” he said.

“They had been out, they were enjoying a quiet drink and were caught up in what happened.”

Mr Makaveli said he was watching the incident unfold on television, but at the time did not realise his pal was a victim.

On hearing his friend, who he played football with in Dagenham as a youngster, had been injured, Mr Makaveli said he decided to set up a fundraising page to help the family.

“He is just a normal guy, he goes to work and has got kids and is soon to get married to his childhood sweetheart,” he said.

“He isn’t going to be able to work for a while and I just thought he is going to need some sort of help.”

With more than £2,000 pledged to the campaign within a matter of hours, Mr Makaveli said he did not expect the total to go up “quite this fast”.

In a post on the page he set up on Monday, Mr Makaveli said Mr Freeman is a “warrior” who was “saved by the medical teams at the scene”.
