Police seek Coronet licence review after ‘250 rushed front door’ [5 July 2017]

The Metropolitan Police has applied to have the licence of The Coronet at the Elephant & Castle reviewed by Southwark councillors “on the basis that the premises is associated with serious disorder”.

According to the online notice of the licence review application, “it is alleged that a fight broke out, missiles were thrown as 250 rushed the front door” last weekend.

The public notice displayed outside the New Kent Road venue uses a different form of words, describing “an incident involving a serious breach of crowd control and entry procedures”.

The police application notes that “further incidents of violent civil disturbance and entrance issues have also occurred” at the music venue and nightclub.

A Southwark licensing sub-committee is due to consider the review on Tuesday 31 July at 10am.
