Man jailed for drug offences after three-years on the run | London

A drug dealer who was in possession of a gun that has been linked to two murders has been jailed after a three-year man-hunt.

Andre Chambers, from Woolwich, was sentenced to ten years in prison for possession of a firearm and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

On 23 September 2013 police attended a property Chambers was living at in Southwark. There police found a 9mm Glock handgun with bullets, and more than 400 grams of cocaine.

Chambers was not at the address at the time of search and detectives set about trying to locate him. Despite a reward of £20,000 being issued, Chambers managed to evade capture until he was stopped by police in a mini cab near Woolwich Ferry on 13 October 2016.

“We have waited over three years to get to this point and I am glad justice has now been served. Chambers did everything he could to evade capture and no doubt got complacent and thought he had got away with the offences committed in 2013.

“A dangerous man is now off the streets and I hope his sentence serves as a warning to those intent on concealing weapons and dealing drugs, we will continue to pursue you no matter the length of time.”
