UK weather forecast: London to be battered by ‘prolonged rain’

London is set to be battered by heavy rain and gusty winds as stormy conditions sweep the capital this week.

Heavy downpours are forecast for Wednesday continuing through to Friday with a slight dip in temperature.

Forecasters said low pressure travelling eastwards will bring prolonged periods of rain, strong winds, hail and a risk of thunder.

Temperatures will be around 20C, the Met Office said.

Epic lightning storm over London

On Saturday, conditions should brighten and skies will clear with temperatures expected to stay in the low 20s.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Today and tomorrow there are going to be showers. But in between those showers, which could be hail and thundery, will be bright, clear, with temperatures as high as 23 in west London.

“There will be a similar situation tomorrow, if anything a little bit dryer and warmer.

“But on Wednesday we’ve got a low pressure system beginning to make headway into the UK that’s going to be bringing rain fronts that will dominate the pattern over the two to three days until Friday.”

“Virtually everywhere on Southern Britain will be experiencing heavy rain, possibly quite prolonged.”
