Stripey house owner gets green light to demolish it | London

A homeowner who gave her multi-million pound house a bright candy-stripe paint job finally has the go ahead to demolish it.

Zipporah Lisle-Mainwaring always denied the red and white paint job was done to spite her neighbours, who had objected to her plans to redevelop the three-storey property in Kensington, west London.

The property developer had planned to replace the building with a new home and change its use from storage to residential.

Her neighbour, Niall Carroll, asked the High Court to quash a planning inspector’s decision to grant permission for the work, claiming the inspector had failed to give adequate reasons for his conclusions.

In October 2016, Mrs Justice Lang accepted that it appeared that the inspector misdirected himself in law in his consideration of the possible future reversion.

But in a ruling made public today, three judges in the Court of Appeal restored the inspector’s original decision, saying it would actually benefit the area.
