Elderly woman killed after being hit by truck in Knightsbridge identified as a Polish national visiting daughter

An elderly woman who was run over and killed by a lorry just yards from Harrods has been identified as a Polish national who had been in London visiting her daughter.

The 83-year-old was hit by a DAF truck in front of horrified shoppers and tourists on the evening of January 18. 

Despite medics’ attempts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have now identified her as Daniela Raczkowska, a polish national who had been in the capital visiting her daughter who lived in Putney.

Officers said she had travelled to the UK before Christmas and was due to return home in February.

A bartender at the nearby Bunch of Grapes pub described horrified tourists seeking refuge inside after witnessing the crash, which happened during rush-hour just before 6pm.

The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and was treated for shock, police said. No arrests have been made.

A police statement said: “A post-mortem examination has been held. Officers await the result of further tests. No arrests have been made and enquires continue.”
