Murder probe after woman found dead with ‘serious’ head injuries in east London

A murder probe has been launched after a woman was found with serious head injuries in a home in east London.

Police were called to an address in Ilford at about 6pm on Tuesday.

Officers found a woman, aged 54, unresponsive having suffered serious head injuries.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, Scotland Yard said.

A crime scene remains in place at the address in Staines Road.

A man aged 58 has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody at an east London police station.

Formal identification is yet to take place while and a post mortem will be held in due course.

Police said next of kin have been informed.

Detective Inspector John Marriott, leading the investigation, said: “While we have a male in custody, our investigation is still in its very early stages and enquiries are ongoing.”
