Why do we have social housing?


With roots in the industrial revolution, social housing has been at the heart of Britain’s welfare system for more than a century.

There are about four million social rented properties in England, where rent is kept below market rate by law.

Properties are set aside for those who are most in need, and let on long-term tenancies.
