London snow warning for the weekend as more Siberian air blows in

Londoners are being warned that the Beast from the East might not have fully disappeared as Siberian winds and snow showers are forecast this weekend.

Liam Dutton, Channel 4 News’ weatherman, took to Twitter and said: “Another burst of Siberian air may push westwards over Europe next weekend.

“It’s unlikely to be as intense or as prolonged as the last cold spell. Nevertheless, it brings the possibility of snow, frost and a late season chill back into the mix…”

The freezing conditions a couple weeks ago wreaked havoc over the UK with the first red weather warnings placed over Scotland and Wales.

More locally, trains got stuck and some people were stranded near Lewisham for up to five hours due to the hazardous conditions.

A Met Office spokesman said that on Saturday there is a risk of snow centrally in the UK with frosty gales coming in over the next couple of days.

So what does this mean for London and Kent?

We should expect snow over the weekend but while it won’t be nearly as destructive as the last time people should be cautious nonetheless.

Take care when travelling and allow extra time to accommodate for delays and dangerous walking and driving conditions.

On its website the Met Office warns: “Saturday, turning much colder with a strengthening easterly wind, some snow showers possible later.”

Even if we are lucky enough to miss the snow, it will not get above 2C all weekend and Monday will feel especially chilly.
