Golders Green crash: Horrified shoppers rush to free people ‘trapped by car’ which mounted kerb and crashed into shop front

Londoners raced to the aid of a pedestrian who was “trapped underneath a car” which mounted the kerb and ploughed into a shop front in north London.

The car is believed to have careered off Golders Green Road and mounted the busy pavement before smashing into a shop.

Pictures from the scene show bystanders rushing to help people said to have been trapped as the shop front crumpled onto the bonnet.

They were seen holding up what looked like a beam from the shop façade to stop it from crushing the front of the car.

Police said two people were injured and one man has been rushed to hospital with “possible life-threatening injuries.”

Neighbourhood patrol group Shomrim tweeted that the road was closed in both directions and video footage showed an Air Ambulance landing close to the scene of the collision.

The fire service and multiple ambulance were also pictured on the busy road.

Eyewitnesses said the crash looked like an “accident”.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called at 11.46am on Wednesday, 28 March to reports of a road traffic collision in Golders Green Road, NW11.

“Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended and found a car in collision with a pedestrian and a shop.

“It is believed two people have been injured. A man has been taken to a central London hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.

“We await an update on the other injured person’s condition.

“Road closures are in place while emergency services deal with the incident.

“No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.”
