Walthamstow shooting: Boy, 16, shot in face in ‘horrific and distressing’ attack, MP says

A 16-year-old boy was shot in the face in a “horrific and distressing” attack in east London during another night of bloodshed on the capital’s streets.

The youngster is fighting for life in hospital and a 15-year-old boy suffered life-changing injuries after he was knifed in the same incident in Walthamstow on Monday night, police confirmed.

Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy posted the latest on the attack on her Facebook page on Tuesday morning.

It came as a 17-year-old girl who shot dead at around the same time on Monday, just three miles away in Tottenham, was named locally as Tanesha.

Ms Creasy wrote: “I have a further update for you on basis of last night’s events – this is direct from the police.

“This is a horrific and distressing incident and appreciate there is much speculation about it – will provide more information as and when I receive it.”

She said that Scotland Yard informed her that officers found a “male with a gunshot wound to the face” outside a leisure centre after racing to the scene in Markhouse Road at about 10pm.

They also found a “male with stab wounds to his arms,” she added.

She said the pair were taken to separate hospitals and the 16-year-old was rushed into intensive care.

Ms Creasy said the police would be stepping up patrols in the area while officers in all areas south of the North Circular have been granted extra search powers after the night of violence.

“There may be a high visibility presence on the Borough through the day and night with officers from specialist units patrolling the significant areas identified by our intelligence unit to deter and provide reassurance,” she said.

“Following from this incident and other pockets of disorder, a Section 60 CJPO search authority has been authorised by Commander Breen for the Borough, all areas south of the A406. This search power has been authorised to deter or identify those considering carrying weapons.”

No arrests have been made following either the Walthamstow or Tottenham attack, police said.

A Met Police spokeswoman told the Standard: “Police were called at approximately 10pm to Markhouse Road, to reports of shots fired.

“The emergency services attended and two teenage boys – aged 16 and 15 were found injured. They were both taken to an east London hospital.

“The 16-year-old remains in a critical condition and the 15-year-old has life-changing injuries but not life-threatening.”
