Buckingham Palace incident: Man arrested as ‘suspicious’ van searched by police

A man has been arrested outside Buckingham Palace as police search a “suspicious” vehicle.

The man, aged in his early 30s, was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence shortly before 8am on Monday, police said.

He was driving a white Ford transit van that officers deemed “suspicious”, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police told the Standard.

Officers stopped the vehicle and cordoned off the area on Bird Cage Walk at the junction with Spur Road.

The Met said in a statement: “Police are dealing with a suspicious vehicle.

“Officers were called at 7.51am to Bird Cage walk at the junction with Spur Road to reports of a suspicious vehicle. 

“The vehicle was stopped and a man in his early 30s was arrested on a public order offence.

“The vehicle he was driving, a white Ford transit van, was deemed suspicious. 

“Road closures and cordons are in place.”
