Yiewsley funfair horror as mother is thrown from ‘Orbiter’ ride in front of her children at Funderpark

A mother was critically ill in hospital today after being thrown from a funfair ride in front of her children.

Witnesses said the victim, in her forties, fell onto railings when she was thrown from the ride at the Funderpark fair in Yiewsley, west London.

Emergency services treated the woman after being called to the scene just after 8pm yesterday. She was taken to hospital, where she was today said to be in a “critical but stable” condition.

It is thought she had been on a ride called the Orbiter, which twists up into the air.

One onlooker claimed her 13-year-old daughter had felt “unsafe” on rides at an earlier visit to the funfair.

She said: “Someone has fallen out of a ride. She’s just flown over my brother’s head — the lady has fallen into the railings.

“My daughter and her friends went to the fair on Monday and said the bars on the rides were clicking as though they might come off, and there were such big gaps she was scared she’d fall through.”

Toots Loveridge, who was also at the fair, said: “She had her kids with her. Don’t know of any update yet but praying she is OK — her kids see it all happen. So sad.”

Funderpark, which bills itself as “Europe’s largest mobile theme park”, was scheduled to be at the Philpot’s Farm site, where the incident happened, until Sunday.

A leaflet advertising  the fair describes it as having “over 30 fantastic rides and attractions” in “a security- controlled enclosure, creating a safe, family-friendly environment”.

Funderpark’s Facebook page appeared to have been taken down last night and the firm did not respond to requests for comment.

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called at 8:08pm yesterday to reports of an incident.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and two first responders in cars, with the first of our medics arriving in under three minutes. A medic from London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched to the scene.

“We treated a female patient at the scene and took her to hospital as a  priority.”

A Met Police spokesman said they were called in by the ambulance  service at 8.15pm “to a report of a woman who had fallen from a funfair ride in Yiewsley. The emergency  services attended and found a woman seriously injured.”
