England v Croatia: Hyde Park to host fan zone for World Cup semi-final

Hyde Park is to become a fan zone and screen England’s World Cup semi-final to 30,000 fans on Wednesday.

Tickets are free, with a ballot opening this afternoon, so you don’t miss out on the chance to see England hopefully beating Croatia.

For the first time since 1990 England will play in a World Cup semi-final and, given the significance of Wednesday night’s game, City Hall and the Government have worked together to help fans follow the team’s journey with an outdoor screening.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and culture secretary Matt Hancock made the announcement on Monday and said talks are ongoing about staging a similar screening should Gareth Southgate’s team make it to the final.

The game in Moscow, broadcast here at 7pm, will give England the chance to reach their first World Cup final since 1966.

Mr Khan, said: “World Cup fever has gripped London and the rest of the nation and we have all been swept away by the fantastic exploits of Gareth Southgate’s team.

“Wednesday evening is a huge opportunity for our boys to do what many of us thought was impossible before the World Cup began and reach the final.”

Up to 30,000 tickets will be available and ballot registration will start at 4pm today and be live until midnight.

Tickets will be allocated by a lottery system. Winners will be notified by 10am and will need to confirm attendance by 1pm on Tuesday.

To apply, fans should visit www.bst-hydepark.com/events/detail/croatia-v-england/

Fans are being told to only attend Hyde Park if they have a ticket as there will be no admission to anyone without.
