Hyde Park World Cup screening: England vs Croatia ballot box website CRASHES in seconds as football fans scramble to get tickets

England fans bidding to get their hands on tickets for a huge World Cup semi-final screening in Hyde Park have been left frustrated after the website crashed within seconds.

Sadiq Khan announced that 30,000 free tickets would be available for the screening of the Three Lions’ clash with Croatia on Wednesday evening.

The online ballot system went live at 4pm on Monday, but immediately crashed as huge numbers of fans tried to access the site at the same time.

The event, organised by British Summer Time, is set to be the biggest public screening of a football match in England in 22 years.

The website warned people trying to get tickets: “Please keep trying if you experience a delay loading the form as we are experiencing high volumes of website traffic.”

World Cup: How England fans celebrated Sweden win

London Mayor Khan earlier said he was “thrilled” at the prospect of the screening, adding: “World Cup fever has gripped London and the rest of the nation and we have all been swept away by the fantastic exploits of Gareth Southgate’s team.

“Wednesday evening is a huge opportunity for our boys to do what many of us thought was impossible before the World Cup began and reach the Final.”

England on what could be an historic night. We want this to be a family-friendly occasion and a chance for England fans young and old to show the positive spirit of football to the country and the world.

“This team has a chance to write themselves into football folklore and London and the entire country will be cheering them on as loud as we can on Wednesday night.”
