Waterloo delays: South Western Railway train passengers face rush hour chaos due to person on the tracks at Queenstown Road

Waterloo rail passengers are braced for an evening of chaos after to a person walked on to the tracks.

Emergency services were called to Queenstown Road station on Thursday evening after receiving reports of a person hit by a train.

A person was on the tracks but was not struck, a British Transport Police spokesman confirmed.

Because trains were unable run through the station disruption on the busy commuter route is expected until the end of the day.

An Network Rail spokesman said: “Passengers should expect delays to South Western Railway services in and out of London this evening after lines were closed this afternoon between Clapham Junction and Waterloo while emergency services dealt with an incident.

“All lines have now reopened and we ask people to please check their journeys before traveling for the rest of the day.”

South Western Rail advised that tickets can be used on reasonable Great Western, Southern or Thameslink routes, Tube services between Richmond and Wimbledon and bus services from Waterloo and Staines, Teddington, Surbiton and Ewell West.

Passengers delayed by 15 minutes or longer are entitled to claim compensation under Delay Repay.
